Reverse of card reads: Brown Hare - Lepus europaeus. Brown hares are widespread throughout most of the UK and were first introduced by the Romans. They are the fastest land mammal in the UK and have been known to reach speeds of up to 45 miles per hour, helping them evade predators. They live in exposed habitats and rather than digging burrows, will form a small shallow depression in the ground known as a Form. They breed between February and September, typically giving birth to three litters a year, each with two to four young known as Leverets.
