Photo postcard of the Tower of London.
Located on the north bank of the River Thames, the Tower of London is a historic castle. As part of the Norman Conquest of England the Tower was founded towards the end of 1066 and in 1078 the White Tower was built. In the 12th and 13th century there were further phases of expansion. From 1100 to 1952 it was used a prison although this was not its primary purpose. The Crown jewels are kept here in the Jewel House in the Waterloo Block.
