Although tiny - measuring only 9-10cm in length and weighing a mere 7-12g - wrens have an unusually loud and vibrant song. They like to search through overgrown, shady areas either on or near the ground to find small insects and spiders to eat. Male wrens are kept busy in the mating season as they will make several nests from which the female will pick one to lay the eggs in. In Europe there is only one species of wren found, in North America there are many more. This delightful photograph was taken by professional wildlife photographer Chris Knights.
